MAGDA OLIVERO - Un bel dì vedremo

"Un bel dì vedremo" by Puccini is the seventh aria in a series of thirteen of the most famous arias sung during a single concert given by soprano Magda Olivero in the church of San Jacopino in Florence, March 28th 1969.
It's with great joy and with a profound admiration for Magda Olivero that I have the pleasure of offering these arias from the outstanding San Jacopino concert.

This rare "live" concert is exceptional for the fact that Magda Olivero sang, with solo piano accompaniment, thirteen of the most celebrated and most difficult arias of the verismo repertoire in a single concert. Sopranos today would only sing 5 or 6 of those taxing arias in a recital.
In Florence on March 28 1969, Magda Olivero had asked not to record the concert, the reason was probably because it was in a chiesa, but we can all be grateful to a disobedient music enthusiast that left it's small Philips cassette recorder running during the entire concert.

That evening, Magda could not have been in better voice, the intensity, the interiority and the sheer beauty of her interpretation blending with the natural echo of the church created a most entrancing atmosphere. These haunting moments of pure musical bliss can once again be shared and are now yours to relive or to discover.
When I asked Magda Olivero why she had requested before the concert started not to record. She replied "because for me that was a very special event, it was like a series of prayers. But now I am grateful for the disobedient person that recorded the concert. Listening to it brought back memories of one of the most rewarding and engaging concerts of my career."

È con grande gioia e con una profonda ammirazione per Magda Olivero che ho il piacere di offrire queste arie dall'eccezionale concerto di San Jacopino.

Questo raro concerto "live" è eccezionale per il fatto che Magda Olivero ha cantato, con l'accompagnamento al pianoforte solo, tredici delle arie più celebri e più difficili del repertorio verismo in un unico concerto. I Soprano oggi canteranno solo 5 o 6 di queste arie in un recital.
A Firenze il 28 marzo 1969, Magda Olivero aveva gentilmente chiesto gentilmente di non registrare il concerto, ma possiamo essere tutti grati a un audace appassionato di musica che ha lasciato il suo piccolo registratore a cassette Philips in funzione durante l'intero concerto.

Quando ho chiesto a Magda Olivero perché avesse chiesto, prima dell'inizio del concerto, di non registrare. Mi ha risposto "perché per me quello era un evento molto speciale, era come una serie di preghiere. Ma ora sono grata alla persona disobbediente che ha registrato il concerto. Ascoltarlo mi ha riportato alla memoria uno dei concerti più gratificanti e coinvolgenti della mia carriera"
