John Arthur Ackroyd: Ghosts of Highway 20

John Arthur Ackroyd (October 3, 1949 – December 30, 2016) was an American murderer and suspected serial killer. In 1992, he was convicted and sentenced to five consecutive life terms in prison for the abduction, rape, and murder of Kaye Turner, a woman he kidnapped in 1975. Ackroyd’s criminal activities reportedly spanned several years, and he is believed to have been involved in multiple unsolved murders and assaults during that time.

Though Ackroyd was primarily known for the Turner case, he was also suspected of being involved in other killings and disappearances, although no charges were filed for those. His case came to light when DNA evidence linked him to the crime, and subsequent investigations raised questions about whether he may have been responsible for additional, unsolved murders across the region. He died in prison in 2016.
