The Nocturnes belong to the most popular and beautiful works amongst Fryderyk Chopin's compositions. The form itself, created by Irish composer John Field, truly blossomed under the hands of the Polish composer. These wonderful miniatures fit perfectly with the atmosphere of the romantic epoch, evoking mystical pictures of the night presented in multiple shades of expression. The intimate tone and dreamy sounds shape the poetry of his works. Chopin composed his Nocturnes between 1830 and 1846 which is quite a long time span. Despite this fact, the nocturnes feature some constant characteristics such as lyrical melody and decorative ornamentation together with the chordal structure of the accompanying left hand. Two Nocturnes op.27 are in fact "sister" pieces in enharmonic keys: C-sharp minor and D-flat major. One of the most famous, they are in the opinion of monographists one of the most genius musical achievements of the composer.
