I stream a bit on Twitch and there is one thing that comes up whenever anyone sees my setup - "What is that HUGE thing on your bottom shelf with all the wires coming out of it?" I then explain it's an audio receiver! It takes in tons of connections and outputs multiple outputs! Then, like clock work, they bring up lag, processing, latency, and why you shouldn't use it for REAL GAMING... I did this as a joke to show people that, no, audio receivers from that era barely do anything to the audio/video stream. You get perfect multiple outs and multiple ins. Even with a light gun which is extremely tight on timings and sensitive to lag.
I dunno where these ideas came from. The audio receiver should be the center piece of every retro gamer and, even more so, any retro gamer that streams or makes content. The high quality splitting of connections is second to none and is super useful for all sorts of situations!
