Just wrapped my first shift as a Zomato delivery partner, and it was a crash course in the reality of the gig economy. The goal of this channel is to explore the world behind the app: how people treat us, the misconception that this isn't a "white-collar" job, what we earn, and the daily grind we go through as normal people just trying to make a living.

The Real Reactions
Restaurant Owners: The vibe varied. Some were grateful for a smooth, fast handoff, understanding the time crunch. Others kept me waiting without much thought to the domino effect on our schedules and incentives, sometimes treating partners with a lack of basic respect.

Customers: Most were decent, but the perception gap is real. Some customers are genuinely kind, offering a quick 'thank you' or a cash tip for an extra effort. Others can be demanding, expecting doorstep delivery to the 5th floor without lift access or complaining about a minor delay as if the driver sets the ETA.

Zomato (The Platform): The system pushes for efficiency. While there's a strong push for road safety initiatives and insurance coverage, the pay structure relies heavily on incentives. This can pressure riders to chase order targets, creating a high-stakes environment.

The Earnings & the Grind
The job is flexible, but that flexibility comes at a cost: no fixed salary, zero provident fund, and the need to work long, irregular hours (12+ hours a day is common) to hit incentive slabs and make ends meet.
The main takeaway from Day 1? We are normal people—college-educated individuals, migrants, people between jobs—who deserve basic dignity and fair working conditions, just like anyone in a "white-collar" role. The goal of this channel is to shed light on that reality.
