How to use X11 forwarding with PuTTY on Windows

Make sure you have X11 package install.
runn following to check

which Xauth.

else install X11 packages

As root, install the X11 packages:
yum install pam-devel.i686
yum install xorg-x11-apps-7.7-6.el6.x86_64

Log out of root

As initial logged in user – run the following:

xauth list

xxxxxxx.xxxx.internal/unix:10 MIT-MAGIC-COOKIE-1 5534218ff3e22cd275a2bea68575237dafda

Run the following command with input from the previous – e.g.:

xauth add $xauthout

e.g. xauth add xxxx.xxx.internal/unix:10 MIT-MAGIC-COOKIE-1 5534218ff3e22cd275a2bea68575237dadf


sudo su -
export XAUTHORITY=~"initial logged in user"/.Xauthority

if Xauth list command returns multiple rows then pick the last one.


If you get following error while starting your application the try using other entries of Xauth list output instead.

Also make sure Xming is runnig on windows else you will get
Following error.
