Ardrossan, Scotland – drone story
As we rise above the town of Ardrossan, the first thing that catches the eye is the small park with the striking war memorial standing proudly in the centre. This monument, dedicated to the local men and women who served, is a quiet reminder of the town’s history and resilience. From above, you can see how it forms a focal point for the community, surrounded by green space where people often pause for a moment of reflection.
Just a short distance away, perched on the hill, are the remains of Ardrossan Castle. The ruins look dramatic from the sky, overlooking both the town and the Firth of Clyde. The castle dates back to the 12th century, built by the Barclay family, and later expanded by the Montgomerys. Legend says parts of it were destroyed during Oliver Cromwell’s campaigns in the 17th century. From above, you can really appreciate why this spot was chosen – the views stretch far across the sea.
Flying further, you can spot the distinctive building of the Al-Farooq Education & Community Centre, with its welcoming design and role as a hub for learning, culture, and community events in Ardrossan. It’s a symbol of how the town blends tradition with modern multicultural life.
And finally, sweeping down towards the water, the Ardrossan Harbour opens up below. From the air, you see the ferries lined up, ready to sail to the Isle of Arran – one of the most popular routes in Scotland. The harbour has long been vital to the town, once busy with shipbuilding and trade, and today it still serves as a gateway to the islands and beyond.
As the drone pulls back, you get a sense of Ardrossan as a place where history, community, and the sea all come together.
