This week, I’m walking through a classic jazz standard that comes to life equally well as an instrumental or vocal tune - Lullaby Of Birdland by pianist George Shearing. I’m starting this one out in a two-feel, building a walking bass line with chromatic passing tones, and then mixing things up with rhythmic embellishments. Not only is this a great song, it presents some unique challenges due to the key. There’s a lot to learn there - this one is worth checking out! As usual, I’m playing the line on Double Bass here, but this is a great one to play on Bass Guitar too! Try playing this version - the music is on screen in both notation and tablature!
