25 years of South Africa’s Constitution | Has the Constitution lived up to its objectives?
South Africa’s Constitution is one of the most internationally acclaimed constitutions in the world, widely acknowledged as one of the most progressive. Former president Nelson Mandela signed the Constitution into law on 10 December 1996. In marking its 25th anniversary people have been reflecting on whether the constitution has fulfilled its objectives which include healing the past divisions, establishing a society based on democratic values, social justice and fundamental rights, laying the foundation for a democratic and open society, improving the quality of life of all citizens, and building a united and democratic South Africa. Activist, Author and Advocate of the High Court Tembeka Ngcukaitobi spoke to SABC News sharing his thoughts on how the constitution has performed over the past 25 years
