HOME PREPAREDNESS TIPS FOR FIRE PREVENTION WEEK!
In this video, we offer a few questions you and your family can consider at any time to ensure your home is safer.
Let’s start with home smoke detectors: are yours in working order? The best way to stay on top of their battery life is to follow this prompt: change your clock, change your batteries! When we change the clocks for daylight savings, put fresh batteries in your detectors.

Next, do you have a working fire extinguisher? The National Fire Protection Agency recommends that you have a working, all-purpose fire extinguish on each level of your home. This is especially important in high-risk areas like your kitchen or garage. If it’s been a while since you’ve looked at yours, Fire Prevention Week is a good time to do so. Ensure that it is within its service life and is showing a full charge on the pressure gauge. Make sure every member of the family knows where they are and how to use them.
So now your home is prepared. Are you? If a fire happened in the middle of the night, does your family have a plan? Is the path to the closest exit clear? Do you have two ways out of the room you’re in? In the fire service, we ‘pre-plan’ high risk occupancies and you should, too. You need a plan on how to exit your home should there be a fire and a backup plan if your first path is blocked. Everyone in the home should know it and once you’re out, know where to meet to make sure everyone got out safely. For more info, click https://sbcfire.co/4h9M9Ua.
