Dressed Herring Salad

Ingredients:
2 beets
3 potatoes
2 carrots
3 eggs
a salted herring fish
a full-fat high-quality mayonnaise.
The salted herring fish can be replaced with a pickled herring in a dill sauce.
Rinse potatoes, carrots, and beets under cold water. Do not peel or cut them. Boil the vegetables and eggs. After that, let them cool down completely.
Peel the herring, remove any bones if present and dice the herring fillets into small cubes.
Peel the boiled vegetables. Then grate potatoes, carrots and beets using a box grater. Do not mix them for now.
Next, make the layers. Take a square glass dish or a large deep round plate, place a layer of diced herring. On the top of the fish add a layer of grated potatoes, then spread a thin layer of mayo on the top of the potatoes.
Now, add a layer of grated carrots, followed by a layer of the grated beets. Add another layer of mayonnaise between the carrots and beets . Grated beets should cover the whole salad completely. Spread the last layer of mayo over the beets and put the salad in the fridge for at least one hour.
Before serving the salad, decorate it with cutted eggs and greens. This salad is great as an appetizer or a light meal.
