Recently diagnosed as Early Stage Papillary Thyroid Cancer (PTC)?
Radiofrequency Microwave Ablation can now be used to treat Early Thyroid Cancer (Papillary Thyroid Microcarcinoma PTMC) besides traditionally-recommended surgical resection of thyroid lobes.
As part of health promotion and self-awareness, more and more people are buying up health packages for disease screening and early detection.
Different types of medical examination will be performed including blood tests and imaging, including ultrasound
Naturally thyroid nodules detected will be smaller due to newer and more sensitive ultrasound machine.
Many cases will be incidental nodule with patients having no prior symptoms at all. In an apparently healthy bodies.
Some nodules will be biopsied and diagnosed.
Some will eventually be diagnosed as thyroid cancer
The commonest type of thyroid cancer is called Papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC), accounting for approximately 85% of thyroid cancers.
PTC measuring 10 mm or less were first defined by the WHO as PTMCs (referred to as “early stage cancer” in this title).
You need to undergo initial assessment to verify the cancer and your risk status (low or high risk case). Many PTMC will be low-risk patients, and this type of cancer has proved track record of good treatment outcome. You need not fear.
Your treatment options include :
1. Active surveillance – regular ultrasound follow-up every few months to chart progress of tumour without any form of surgical intervention.
2. Surgery (traditionally recommended) Not all cases need to have your either one or both of the thyroid lobes removed (total removal rarely even needed)
unless deemed high-risk PTMC
3. Thermal ablation is a minimally-invasive surgical option for this early thyroid cancer
Radiofrequency Ablation (RFA) or Microwave Ablation (MWA)
minimally-invasive surgical option through pinhole skin puncture
Ultrasound-guided thermal ablation are offered here in the form of radiofrequency ablation (RFA) or microwave ablation (MWA). both of almost equal effectiveness but both are superior to laser ablation
Based on international multi-centred recommendations, RFA/MWA ablation is a proven SAFE & EFFECTIVE treatment for PTMC
It PRESERVES your thyroid gland too (in low-risk PTMC)
Sample videos are shown
Now that you know RFA MWA is a safe, effective and proven treatment for low-risk PTMC…
There is hope for a better tomorrow. Surely.
As we handle many different treatment methods for different thyroid diseases, we shall be able to also suggest alternative treatment options for you, from conservative, watch-and-wait option, shrinkage to total removal/resection of the lesions. We will assess each patient on a unique case-to-case basis for diagnosis and treatment, hoping for the best outcome in each case. COMMITTED TO YOUR WELL-BEING.
