Join Lynda Norman, a passionate watercolor artist from the Okanagan Valley in British Columbia, as she takes you on a creative journey into the art of watercolor vignettes. In this video, Lynda explores the beauty of soft, flowing edges combined with defined centers to create stunning landscape effects. Whether you're a beginner or a seasoned artist, you'll discover how to use water, pigment, and simple tools like a spray bottle to let your imagination and creativity flow.
Learn about:
Choosing the Right Paper: Why Lynda prefers 140-pound or 300-pound watercolor paper for her vignettes.
The Power of Water: How to use water droplets and a wet palette to create organic, dreamy designs.
Layering and Texture: Tips on layering colors and using tools like a bread bag enclosure tab to add depth and texture to your work.
This step-by-step demonstration will help you embrace the unpredictable nature of watercolor, allowing you to create beautiful, spontaneous art. Perfect for adding a unique touch to your landscapes, these techniques will inspire you to experiment with your own watercolor vignettes.

BRUSHES: Try out my favoutite brush - the medium Goat/synthetic blend (1.5" bristle with bamboo cane handle) from Lebenzon Brushes. Tracy Lebenzon makes all his brushes by hand in his studio near Seattle and uses upcycled materials. https://lebenzon-paintbrushes.com/# Use the PROMO CODE 'Lynda' for 20% off your purchase.
Because I like to paint loose, the Solo brushes from Michael Solovyev's Watercolor Online site are my all-time favourites for larger applications. I use both the 3-line and the 5-line styles. https://www.watercoloronline.com/wate...
You can also find Hake brushes that are great for holding lots of water for those big washes - I found a nice Ron Ranson brand Hake on Amazon. https://amzn.to/3C1503H
For defining and lifting (shorelines, etc.) I use a chisel blender brush. I have several brands on hand and they’re all great. Here’s a link to the Princeton brand to get you started on your search https://amzn.to/402XGfB
PALETTE: I use the 12 well Eco Studio Palette from Michael Solovyev’s Watercolor Online. The wells/pans are held in place with strong magnets and are the perfect size for my larger brushes.
Here in Canada, you can order them at: https://www.watercoloronline.com/eco-...
If you are in France, Poland, Turkey, Spain, Italy, UK, USA, Netherlands, or Sweden you can find the links to access them on Amazon at: https://www.eco-palette.com/about-stu...

My favourite DANIEL SMITH PAINTS can be found at: https://amzn.to/4hGuOku
My go-to colours are Mayan Dark Blue; Undersea Green; Quinacridone Gold; and Moonglow. Since Moonglow is considered a fugitive colour and not as lightfast as some, you can also try Lunar Violet with a touch of Quinacridone Purple
