Following our extensive cello mic test with cellist Natalie Rozario, we recorded this beautiful rendition of her performing The Swan by Saint-Saëns, to a piano backing track accompaniment. It is a single complete take.
Following listening to the tests, the mic combo selected by Natalie was the AEA R84A ribbon mic into our API A2D preamp and our vintage Neumann U47fet cardioid condenser microphone into our UA 4-710 (probably 70/30 in favour of the ribbon), plus Schoeps CMC622 room mics into our Neve 1073DPD.
The only treatment we have added was reverb from Logic's native Space Designer (adapted String Chamber), it always seems to offer what I need.
There's nothing better than a great player performing on a beautiful instrument in our live room, being captured by some of the best mics / pre's around.
