This simulation was very cost effective because the scene had been "scanned" by our 3-D Imaging ScanStation Surveyor. All of the dimensions and the roadway, as well as the side slopes and even vegetation and "phone" lines, were brought into our 3 D Studio Max program from the ScanStation survey. We used the ScanStation to model the roadway and its surface so that it would be exactly like the original. Once the survey is brought into the reconstruction program, then the scene can be simulated to include irregularities in the road surface to exactly recreate what happened in the accident. The ScanStation virtual image is "ultra-accurate" and makes the simulation "ultra-easy." Cost? Far less than any comparable simulation, including the cost of the most accurate survey available, the ScanStation survey...(ScanStation surveys are only slightly more expensive than Total Station surveys).
