Following the end of steam at the Zhalai Nuer mine, Sandaoling is the last large open cast pit with significant steam activity. JS class 2-8-2 locomotives are busy bringing spoil and coal out of the hole and returning with empties. A spoil train heading out of the pit pulled by a JS passes another pushing an engineers train. A JS descends into the pit with a rake of empties, the loco that is heard as the wagons rumble past is on another train of spoil heading out. As the sounds of this train fade, another is heard from the opposite side as it approaches with more spoil. The action continues with several more trains entering and leaving the pit. December 2009
