This documentary follows a journey across New Zealand's spectacular North Island, taking on two of its most iconic mountains. Eric Hanson attempts to hike the massive volcanic cone of Mount Taranaki, exploring a rich rainforest and mossy ecosystem. However, rapidly changing, extreme weather, including strong winds and fog, makes the trail intense and prevents a summit. Local Māori lore explains that Taranaki is a spiritual peak hiding its tears after being banished. The adventure pivots to different challenges, including a massive natural rock slide outside Gisborne and surfing on the coast. The final mission is a pre-dawn climb up the sacred Mount Hikurangi on the northeast side, which is known as the first place on Earth to greet the sun. Guided by a local, the team visits awe-inspiring carvings of Māori mythology before making a challenging 3:30 AM push to the summit to witness the incredible sight of the sun breaking over the Pacific.
