The Battle of Anzio was of the Italian Campaign in World War II that commenced January 22, 1944. The operation was opposed by German and by Elite Italian Repubblica Sociale Italiana (RSI)
The battle was costly, with 24,000 U.S. and 10,000 British casualties.
