Exploring Kijabe - Hiking in Kijabe Hills in Kinale Forest | Dark Tunnel, Hot Springs | Part 2

Let's go on a quick hike in the Kijabe forest via Old Kijabe. In this video, we shall see the dark tunnel that goes under the railway in Kijabe Hills. We shall also visit the hot springs, many river crossings, and hike the many trails on our way.

Kijabe forest has many activities to keep you up and gunning. On top of the list is the most popular, hiking. The recreation site also offers picnic sites, zip lining, paragliding, bike trails, hot springs, dark tunnel, bird watching among many other interesting activities.
Many of us know Kijabe because of the AIC Kijabe Mission Hospital.
From the little history I learned in school, I know that Kijabe was a mission town.

You know, the stories about missionaries and the gospel in Kenya?

This was one of their major centers.

Today, Kijabe is a major medical center. People from surrounding regions visit the town to access medical care at the Kijabe mission hospital.

Believe it or not, resting at 2200 meters above sea level, Kijabe is in Kiambu county, and is just about 50 km from Nairobi city. I did a quick Google search and discovered that the town lies in Maasai land, and that the Maasai meaning of Kijabe is 'Donyo Kejabe' which means the 'gold mountain.'
Kijabe sits at the edge of the great rift valley.

Writing and reading these things makes me really miss my GHC, Social studies and geography classes.
