On this sunny Saturday morning, several farmers led their livestock from Appenzell through Wasserauen toward Seealpsee.
In keeping with tradition, goats, cows, and the bull are brought to the summer alp on foot, directly from their home farms. This Alpfahrt—also known as Öberefahre in Appenzellerland—marks the start of the alpine season, where the animals will remain on the alp throughout the summer.
