Memories of Hortense and Géza Anda recounted by Dame Gwyneth Jones DBE. One of the world’s leading dramatic sopranos in the second half of the 20th century, Dame Gwyneth is foremostly remembered for her powerful performances of operas by Wagner, Strauss, Puccini and Verdi. Of modest Welsh origin, she arrived in Zurich as a humble student at the beginning of the 1960s, where she was offered a place to stay by a kind lady, who should become a great friend: Hortense Anda. Even though her own international career began to soar shortly after, Gwyneth Jones and her family remained close friends with the Andas, and she was maybe one of the last people to see Géza alive.
