In this video we visit an archeological dig of a former Victorian chemical works thats now gone forever. We visit this abandoned site that dates from the late 18th century. In 1819 it was associated with the dyeing of cloth and then later a print works. Probably the printing of fabrics that came from the Lancashire cotton mills and the cotton mills in Manchester. Finally in 1854 the factory was altered and it was a chemical works. In the archeological dig we can see the remains of chimneys and old Flues that would have carried the toxic fumes on this victorian landscape. Situated by the River Irwell in Salford it would have contributed to the filthy victorian skylines and pollution. The site is now under development and will be modern apartments. So everything you see has gone. This is almost a time team video as we seek to preserve Salford and Manchesters Victorian Industrial past.
