If You See the Giant… RTB | Osprey VR

I’m flying the Osprey from Kabul toward Pakistan. Because when your fingers start aching from hours of building an AI, the medically recommended solution is obviously… a tilt-rotor aircraft and a horizon that looks like it’s been stress-tested by history.
It’s become my favourite way to unwind. Not a walk. Not yoga. Not “mindfulness” with a candle that smells like optimism. No. I go and fly something exotic, something loud and unapologetic, something that feels like it was engineered by a committee of brilliant people who all secretly hated silence. Then I come back down to Earth, crack my knuckles, and dive straight back into Python like I never left. Therapy is expensive. Ospreys are free. In my imagination, anyway.
And if the local wildlife includes a red-headed thirteen-foot giant with six fingers and a double row of teeth, then fair enough. I’ll simply adjust my flight plan so my problems become someone else’s problems at 240 knots.
And honestly, I’m enjoying how the new year has started. There’s a rare kind of peace when nothing is on fire. Not literally, not metaphorically, not technologically. No catastrophic bugs, no sudden software tantrums, no “surprise feature” that’s actually an elaborate punishment. So far, nothing has crawled out of the walls to ruin my flow. Nothing like that lip-sync issue last year, which had me staring into the abyss while the abyss politely asked me if I’d tried turning it off and on again. I did. The abyss laughed. We moved on.
I’ve learned that momentum is sacred. It’s a fragile little creature. You feed it, you protect it, you don’t make loud noises near it. Because the modern world is basically a professional distraction machine with a side hustle in despair. It wants your attention, your time, your energy, your sanity, and preferably your bank details. And once it gets them, it acts like it’s doing you a favour.
So I keep my mind busy. Not because I’m meant to be some “worthy taxable product” owned by the state, stamped, priced, and processed like a barcode with legs. Not because I’m trying to win at capitalism’s weird little endurance sport. I stay busy because I love what I do. I love building thinking systems and computers. I love seeing ideas turn into working machinery. I love that moment where the code finally clicks, and the whole thing stops being a pile of stubborn symbols and starts behaving like a real tool.
And maybe that’s the trick, right? When the world is loud and ridiculous, you build something that makes sense. When reality tries to grind you down into compliance, you climb into a machine that can hover, tilt, and outrun gravity for a while. You take a breath above the mess, you point the nose toward the mountains, and you remember you’re not here to be managed.
You’re here to make things. And occasionally, to fly something that looks like it could deliver mail or start a small war, depending on the weather.
Anyway. Wheels up. Let’s go.
