A final divorce order, previoulsy known as decree absolute, but since the introduction of 'no fault divorce' is now known as a final divorce order.
It is very important to take legal advice over the timing of the application for the final divorce order. A common reason being that, for example, one party could die during the proceedings and if you have already applied for the final order you would not be entitled to that pension or a share of it.
As court applications are now online the process can be instantaneous. It is then too late to change your mind.
Think carefully about pressing go or take specialist family law advice before making any quick decisions.
So what is a final divorce order?
A piece of paper that says your marriage is dissolved. Your marriage is formally brought to an end. You are free to remarry. The objective is that you have a financial clean break so that you can move on your separate ways.
At this point it is also important to make a will. In the event of your death that you estate is properly looked after.
