What sets Petrof apart from other brands: precise down bearing. Sound board and bridge exactly placed so that sound plate can be placed exactly on top. Then set the down bearing. Slightly up to the bridge and then down to hitch pin. Soundboard is curved like a crown, pushes against the strings for resonance. Other piano makers would follows the specs and slap it all together and call it good enough. Wood is living breathing material and each has slight differences that cannot be ignored. A fine piano like Petrof gives special attention to string placement and downbearing. Cut an exact depth of the down bearing with appropriate angles up and down along the bridge. Each string placement has an exact downbearing for optimal tone. Then even and smooth it all for finish. This detail with downbearing is what sets apart a fine piano maker.
