Living with CRPS or chronic pain means you're constantly calculating: "Can I make it through this event?" "Will I pay for this outing tomorrow?" The answer isn't always easy-but one truth remains: it's okay to say no.
You are allowed to put yourself first.
One of the most overlooked tools in chronic pain management is setting boundaries. It may feel uncomfortable, especially when you're a people-pleaser or feel guilty about missing out-but your body will thank you for listening.
Saying "no" doesn't make you antisocial or unfriendly-it makes you wise. It means you're choosing long-term stability over short-term social pressure. It means you're actively pacing your energy so you can live your life more fully.
💡 Pro Tip: Practice saying "Thanks for the invite-I'd love to join another time. Today, I need to rest." Keep it kind, but firm.
👨👩👧 For family and friends-please don't take it personally. Your loved one isn't avoiding you-they're protecting their wellbeing. Showing support means accepting their "no" as a sign of trust, not rejection.
🌱 Let's normalise rest. Let's normalise prioritising health over obligation.
