Precision Zone – Static Check Procedure for Magnetek 505 & 506 Inverters in Chicago & Wheeling
At Precision Zone, located in Wheeling near Chicago, we specialize in Magnetek 505 and 506 series inverter repair and troubleshooting. In this video, we demonstrate a quick static check procedure to help identify potential faults before performing further diagnostics.
⚡ Steps for Performing a Static Check on Magnetek 505 & 506 Inverters:
✔ Power Off & Discharge the Unit – Ensure the inverter has been completely powered down and allowed to fully discharge before proceeding.
✔ Disconnect Power & Output Connections – Remove L1, L2, L3 (R, S, T) input power connections and T1, T2, T3 (U, V, W) motor output connections to prevent inaccurate readings.
✔ Measure Bus Voltage – Verify the drive is fully discharged by checking the bus voltage.
✔ Check for Phase-to-Ground Shorts – Each phase should be tested against ground to detect any shorts.
✔ Inspect Inputs & Outputs for Component Failures – Rob will guide you through checking diodes and transistors to ensure none have failed.
💡 Important: A static check can detect major issues with inputs and outputs, but even if the inverter passes, there may still be underlying faults requiring further testing.
