World leaders from across the globe arrived in South Africa on Saturday as the G20 Summit officially opened for two days of high-level negotiations. Presidents, prime ministers, and senior officials were welcomed by South African President Cyril Ramaphosa at the convention centre hosting the summit.
Among the arrivals were French President Emmanuel Macron, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, European Council President António Costa, South Korean President Lee Jae-myung, Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, and Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed.
They were joined by Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, Saudi Arabian Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman, UN Secretary-General António Guterres, and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.
The summit brings together the world’s largest economies at a time of heightened geopolitical tensions, global economic uncertainty, and competing international priorities. Leaders are expected to focus on economic stability, regional conflicts, development financing, climate commitments, and reinforcing cooperation in an increasingly polarized world.
