In a deeply concerning move, the Government of Pakistan has imposed a severe restriction on the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, prohibiting them from celebrating Eid-ul-Adha, one of Islam’s most sacred festivals. Reports confirm that members of the community are being forcibly asked to sign affidavits, declaring that they are not Muslims. Failure to do so, or any attempt to observe the Eid rituals, may result in a fine of up to PKR 500,000 (approx. ₹1.5 lakh INR) and possible legal action.
The Ahmadiyya community has long faced persecution in Pakistan, where a constitutional amendment in 1974 declared them non-Muslims. Over the years, they have been barred from referring to their places of worship as mosques, using Islamic greetings, or performing Islamic rituals. But this latest incident – banning a peaceful religious celebration like Eid – marks a new low in religious discrimination and human rights violation.
