Are you considering running an entirely liquid fertilizer program? Do you want to incorporate liquid fertilizer into your current program? Have you ever even sprayed a liquid fertilizer? These questions and more will be answered inside this video.
For many people using liquid fertilizers in their lawn care program can be a daunting proposition. For others, it's just a regular part of their practice. In this video I talk about the benefits of liquid fertilizer as well as the drawbacks of using liquid fertilizers. This is a choice that at some point everyone will make in their lawn care journey. But for some of you DIY lawn care fanatics, you still haven't quite figured out where and how a liquid program would fit best.
There are quite a few things that need to be understood before switching from a standard granular program to a 100% liquid program. First and foremost would be finding out if you have any major soil deficiencies that would be easier to correct with a granular application. I believe that that is the first pitfall that people get themselves into. Quite simply, major soil nutrient corrections are often times easier to fix with a granular fertilizer product. There are certain macro nutrients that will be very easily replaced with liquids and others that may be a little bit more difficult.
With that being said, soil tests are not absolutely necessary for any lawn care program. If you are more adventurous and enjoy discovering things on your own, you may find at some point that your lawn just doesn't look quite like it used to. This is the time that looking into what is happening in your soil will make a big difference for you going forward.
One of the best things about incorporating liquid fertilizers into your program is the flexibility with anything else you may need to apply. Most all liquid fertilizers are compatible with pesticides and many applications can be done at the same time.
For many people, understanding that they can hybridize their liquid and a granular program is one of the best things ever. I believe that there is space in any lawn care program to be flexible and that there isn't always one way to do things. Mixing up your applications between granular fertilizer and liquid fertilizer throughout the season can give you one of the best looking lawns that anyone has ever seen. But just like anything else it all comes down to timing and making sure you were getting the right material down.
For all the others out there like me, I have been running liquid only programs for 20 years now and have been able to create some of the most beautiful lawns in any neighborhood. Again, timing is everything and making sure that you are feeding in accordance with your turf and it's growing cycle will make all of the difference in the world. There are certain times of year that certain nutrients are in higher demand than others and feeding into those needs is paramount.
