What do you do when no one’s planning a tribute for one of the greatest blues musicians of all time? If you’re Joe Bonamassa, you make it happen yourself. And you bring a bunch of world-class musicians into the studio to do it with you.

In this clip taken from our special episode of the Gibson Gear Guide Artist Greenroom, Joe sits down with Dinesh to talk about B.B. King’s Blues Summit 100—an all-star, 32-track tribute album produced by Joe and Josh Smith in honor of what would’ve been B.B. King’s 100th birthday. The project features jaw-dropping reinterpretations of King’s classics by legends like George Benson, Buddy Guy, Shaka Khan, Michael McDonald, Derek Trucks, Susan Tedeschi, Slash, Marcus King, Christone “Kingfish” Ingram, Keb’ Mo’, and many more.

Bonamassa reveals how the album came together across five different studios and over nine months, with each artist handpicked to deliver their own take on the King of the Blues. Backed by Joe’s own band, Blues Summit 100 brings together generations of players in a heartfelt celebration of B.B. King’s music, voice, and legacy.

In addition, Joe talks about how kind B.B. King was to him and the effect the blues icon had on him as a guitarist, and also personally.

“I knew B.B. King for 25 years,” Joe says. “He was always kind to me—but more importantly, he was kind to everyone. How many people in the music business can you say that about?”

Blues Summit 100 is the tribute B.B. King deserves—and the blues revival the world needs, well and truly in the capable hands of Joe Bonamassa and his incredible first-call musicians.
