On November 23, 2024, 12-year-old California Condor 653 showed up at the release site, where our team trapped her for her annual health checkup and lead testing. Despite having no symptoms, she tested at an “Extreme Exposure” level for lead, requiring immediate treatment. After two rounds of chelation therapy over two weeks, her levels came down and she was released back into the wild on December 8. Watch the triumphant release here!
