We're Leaving the Homestead... (For Now) Here's Why | Off-Grid Italy

hey everyone, this is a bittersweet episode for us. after 9 solid months of renovating our abandoned land and transforming it into an off-grid homestead, we're taking a winter break. so this is our last week on the homestead before heading back to switzerland and the uk for the holidays.

we've been living off the grid & homesteading in italy for 9 months - transforming abandoned land through terracing, building off grid systems and creating our permaculture homestead. now it's time to winterize the homestead, spend time with family and return in spring to continue our abandoned land restoration.

in this final episode, we're preparing the homestead for winter - making sure everything is protected and ready for our return. we're winterizing systems, caring for the worms, planting grass seeds and securing our young trees against frost.

this week's final winter prep tasks before we leave our homestead include:

🪱 preparing compost worms for winter
🍂 organising our hot compost
🌳 protecting young trees from frost
💚 saying goodbye to our homestead (for now)
