After being rescued by his hero, Sonic the Hedgehog, Tails sets out to the Ice Paradise Zone in his own effort to help bring down Dr. Eggman. Meanwhile, Sonic himself has reached the Sky Canyon Zone, a very dangerous area that Sonic simply sees as another minor obstacle course. However, Sonic gets quite the surprise when he finds Eggman's machine only to discover the pilot is none other than Knuckles the Echidna! Once the machine is destroyed (and Knuckles gets charred...), the guardian of Angel Island joins Sonic in the fight and somehow ends up in the strange Techno Base Zone...
