Michael Jackson The Experience for XBox 360 with Kinect support split-screen gameplay by MightyMeCreative.
"Beat It" MASTER PERFORMANCE MODE (Level 4 out of 5 Star Difficulty) = singing + choreography that is closer to an authentic Michael Jackson performance. This song can also be performed as Dance-Only & Regular Performance-Only as Level 2 out of 5 star difficulty. This is not an easy song for me to sing, which is also why I didn't dance much while singing, so please don't hate..congratulate. ;P
MY REVIEW & FAQ!
MICROPHONES & SINGING:
You DON'T need a mic for this game because the Kinect camera has one built in. Sometimes I like to use a mic when it complements the song or when the song is vocal-only or slower-paced.
-The type of mic you can use with this game must be an Xbox 360 mic, like mine that came with the Lips Karaoke game, or the Rock Band mic. To find out where to buy, Google it! I bought mine online!
-I think using the hand-held mic just helps pick me up easier. I have a habit of singing low when I'm tired because I'm not vocally trained (obviously!), so it's helpful.
-To avoid the echo, you have to turn down the mic volume in the game, & it still picks you up for scoring.
-Not every song in the game requires you to sing, but at least 50% of the songs REQUIRE singing. There are only 15 songs that are dance-only, & the difficulty is only 2-3 stars max.
DANCING & SCORING:
-I look small compared to the back-up dancers because I AM SMALL! 5 ft. to be exact! That's why I wear heels in most songs! Honestly, I don't think this game reads me that well because of my height. When my husband performs, and doesn't quite match the steps, I think the Kinect is more forgiving & scores him well because he's about a foot taller...oh well, Whatever!
-Yes, I think the game is generally strict & tough on scoring, but timing is key as well. I thought the scoring would be similar to Dance Central, but I quickly learned that getting 100% & 5 stars does not come easily at all, at least for Performance modes.
-Yes, there are a lot of poses in some songs, but they are not as easy as they look, plus these tracks use almost the entire song compared to DC.
-Even if the dancing doesn't look difficult, if you mix singing in between (& NOT just stand there), it gets tiring especially because I don't know how to sing with proper breathing.
-MJ's moves are his signature; they're jazzy, free-flowing & stylistic, therefore difficult to emulate; I'm loving the challenge though!
COMPARISON TO DANCE CENTRAL:
-First of all, CAN'T WE ALL JUST GET ALONG? There IS room for more than one dance game for Kinect, so why do we have to pick between the two?! LOL! I knew people are bound to compare the two games, so to each their own! :D
-I like the breakdown portion of MJTE because it breaks it up into sections, but what I don't like is that you can't focus on a single move if you are having trouble. If you're not good at mirroring the dancer, you'll probably have trouble learning! Even I need a lot of practice.
-Generally speaking, compared to Dance Central, learning the moves is a lot harder because you don't really know what you are doing wrong because it doesn't highlight the body part that's off. When doing the breakdown sections, I really have to run them about 4+ times...once I get 4 stars, I move on.
The thing I have trouble with is the cards that are on the right, which are so small & too far to the bottom they should be more higher on the screen, so I'm looking down & then also trying to watch the back-up dancer.
-I think MJTE & DC are very different & I LOVE BOTH! I love how MJTE incorporates singing & how it is to experience how it is to perform both singing & dancing at the same time. I love the song variety, better ability to breakdown moves, & flexibility of levels in Dance Central.
-In the end, this game is about performance to me & celebrating Michael Jackson's music & choreography. I can care less about score, but of course I will celebrate if I get 5 stars because they don't come as easy as they do in Dance Central.
