This is a keychain pair that I made as a gift for some dear friends. The dark one is the classic beautiful Black Walnut while the lighter one is Pear wood from a location that has great meaning to our friends. This was a pretty simple task, similar to making pens, but on a much smaller scale since the blank is less than 2" long. It was a fun little project. For this style keychain though I had to make two pockets in for each end piece in order to press them together. Here is some info about the project. Hope you enjoy the video!
Wood: Black Walnut and Pear
Wood Finishes:
1st - Walnut Oil (1 coat, let soak in for a few seconds, up to a minute, then wipe off any excess)
2nd - Shellawax (1 coat)
Lathe speed for cutting: ~1100
Lathe speed for friction polish finish: ~1300
