AFFECTION - Afecto

AFFECTION (=afecto, cariño, o incluso amor) se refiere a un sentimiento de ternura, apego o amor hacia alguien.
Compuse esta canción en julio de 2022: primero la música, los días 20 y 21, y luego la letra, el 22. En febrero de 2025 decidí subirla a mi canal, así que actualicé la letra con algunos ajustes el día 17 y agregué una coda instrumental al final.

“AFFECTION” es una canción de rock con un toque pop rock en el estribillo, lo que la hace más pegadiza y variada. Las estrofas, con acordes de séptima y una progresión poco convencional, tienen un sonido especial con tintes bluesy, mientras que el estribillo resalta con una armonía más clara y melódica, enfatizando la emoción del mensaje.

La letra habla de amor, comprensión y crecimiento en pareja. Expresa la importancia del cariño, la protección y el esfuerzo por superar juntos los desafíos. La repetición del estribillo con un cambio final en la letra refuerza la idea de que, aunque las cosas cambien, el amor sigue firme. En resumen, creo que tiene una gran personalidad y transmite un mensaje claro y sincero.

Para ajustar bien la canción, en 2022 grabé 12 demos tocando y cantando con guitarra, los días 24 y 29 de julio y el 3 de agosto. La última de ellas, Toma 12, me pareció la mejor lograda y sirvió de base para la grabación de 2025, en la que utilicé guitarras eléctricas, bajo eléctrico y batería tocada con mi teclado.

Proceso de grabación - MIX 2025 Montado Final
• 15 de febrero: Grabación del bajo sobre una base de batería.
• 16 de febrero: Guillermo Lume grabó un punteo de guitarra eléctrica para la coda final, usando una prueba de la canción que hice ese mismo día. Ese solo se insertó en el mix final el 19 de febrero.
• 18 de febrero: Grabación de platillos, golpes de bombo y redobles sobre la base de batería, además de dos guitarras eléctricas.
• 19 de febrero: Grabación de la voz líder y dos armonías vocales (una por debajo y otra por encima). Ese día finalicé el montaje, edición y masterización del tema.

Para el video utilicé filmaciones de la grabación de las guitarras eléctricas y la voz líder. Como material extra, agregué la Toma 12 con la letra original, grabada el 3 de agosto de 2022, que apenas difiere de la versión final.

I composed this song in July 2022: first the music, on the 20th and 21st, and then the lyrics on the 22nd. In February 2025, I decided to upload it to my channel, so I updated the lyrics with some minor adjustments on the 17th and added an instrumental coda at the end.

“AFFECTION” is a rock song with a pop-rock touch in the chorus, making it catchier and more dynamic. The verses, with seventh chords and an unconventional progression, have a special sound with bluesy undertones, while the chorus stands out with a clearer and more melodic harmony, emphasizing the emotion of the message.

The lyrics talk about love, understanding, and growth as a couple. They highlight the importance of affection, protection, and the effort to overcome challenges together. The repetition of the chorus with a final lyric change reinforces the idea that, even though things change, love remains strong. In short, I believe it has a unique personality and delivers a clear and sincere message.

To refine the song, I recorded 12 demos in 2022, playing and singing with my guitar on July 24th and 29th and August 3rd. The last one, Take 12, seemed the best version to me and served as the foundation for the 2025 recording, in which I used electric guitars, an electric bass, and drums played on my keyboard.

Recording Process - MIX 2025 Final Assembly
• February 15: Recorded the bass over a drum track.
• February 16: Guillermo Lume recorded an electric guitar solo for the final coda, using a test version of the song I had made that same day. That solo was inserted into the final mix on February 19.
• February 18: Recorded cymbals, bass drum hits, and drum rolls over the drum track, as well as two electric guitars.
• February 19: Recorded the lead vocals and two vocal harmonies (one below and one above the lead). That day, I finalized the assembly, editing, and mastering of the track.

For the video, I used footage from the recording of the electric guitars and lead vocals. As bonus material, I included Take 12 with the original lyrics, recorded on August 3rd 2022, which differ only slightly from the final version.
