In an engaging session interspersed with audience questions and comments, Ven Candā introduces a sutta that reminds us how difficult it is to make accurate judgments of others’ virtue, integrity, fortitude, and wisdom, and encourages us to select our friends and teachers with care. [0:00] Good company [5:05] Making judgments [11:35] Virtue and integrity [17:33] Protecting your integrity [22:24] Putting trust in teachers [30:16] Knowing another’s qualities [37:34] (Un)afflicted by the 8 worldly winds [47:49] An unwholesome workplace [51:21] The ripples of wisdom “beyond reasoning” [1:03:09] Cultivation, not perfection [1:07:22] Is this YouTube teacher trustworthy? ABOUT US: Anukampa Bhikkhuni Project was founded in 2016 by Ven Canda and Ajahn Brahm. The charity aims to spread the Buddha's teachings and give women the opportunity to receive full bhikkhuni ordination for the first time in UK history, by establishing a monastic residence (monastery) for bhikkhunis. This second aim was accomplished in March 2024, when we procured a property in a secluded woodland hamlet near Oxford. Known as "Anukampa Grove," Ven Canda now resides there with two aspiring bhikkhunis. Visitors of every background, race, gender and sexual orientation are welcome upon prior arrangement. Donations of any amount are gratefully received and help support the monastic's requisite needs, cover our running costs and make essential renovations to the property, either as one-off gifts or standing orders. UK taxpayers can claim gift aid, increasing your donation by 25%. International bank transfers can be made via Wise. Please visit https://anukampaproject.org/donate or write to [email protected] for further information. General enquiries can be addressed to [email protected]
