This is Explore USA—a journey through travel, food, and fun, where I share my stories with you. Bengali by birth, Indian at heart, today I’m taking you to one of the biggest Indian Bengali communities in Massachusetts to celebrate the final day of Durga Puja.

The day is marked by the famous Bengali ritual of Shidur (sindoor) khela. Married women offer sweets and water, gently sweeping Ma Durga’s face with paan leaves, and performing the arti before she begins her heavenly journey. Then comes Shidur Khela—a vibrant ritual where every married woman plays with sindur, painting the air red with joy and devotion.

Since we don’t submerge the idol here in the U.S., the murti is lovingly stored for next year’s puja. But that doesn’t dim the spirit—once the rituals end, the auditorium transforms. Music rises, feet tap, and the bhasan dance begins.

This year, something new lit up the floor: the Teens Club of Bangla O Biswa surprised us with a flash mob that kicked off the celebration. The venue buzzed with energy—stalls lined the space (you saw those in my previous video!), and Bangla O Biswa served us amazing prashad for both lunch and dinner.

Cultural programs filled the day, but the fashion show—Tillotoma—stole the spotlight. Dances, medleys, and performances by talented artists kept the crowd enchanted. And finally, the night closed with a live concert by Raj Barman.
