Cariboo Gold Rush, Barkerville BC - Underground Placer Mining & Prospecting On Williams Creek

This is Barkerville, the main town of the Cariboo Gold Rush.. It is a region famous for its mining challenges and obstacles. Overburden is a dominating feature of the landscape, moved around by the movement of glaciers. It is a huge obstacle for miners chasing the gravel deposits and leads of gold. There was a lot of planning and resources that went into mining Cariboo.

We explore the town of Barkerville, but it was once a huge town with mining operations taking place within the town. The town is nestled in the Cariboo mountains and marks the end of the Cariboo wagon road. Barkerville was the main destination for a lot of prospectors searching for gold in the region.

As we walk around Barkerville, there is much to see about the history and engineering behind gold mining on the creeks. Waterwheels, flumes, pumps, and hydraulic monitors are just some of the tools used to mine for gold. The region is full of rich deposits, and there are active mining operations to this day. It is an incredibly interesting region with a story tell of a unique mining town.
