Bending Wire and Tubing with the Pepe Superior Ring Bender - Part 1 - Nancy LT Hamilton

Two Part Series- Nancy shows you how to make two, quick and easy hoop earring designs using the 'Pepe Tools' Superior Ring Bending Tool. In part one,she uses the ring bender to bend tubing and make a hoop earring. Part Two covers the construction of a "fancy wire" earring.

*NOTE: What exact tubing that I used in the video is difficult to determine as I have bought tubing from many different suppliers over the years. What you need to do is go to a place like metalliferous or Rio Grande, or Otto Frei and see what they have. The exterior dimensions are not as important as the interior and wall dimensions of the tubing. 20 gauge wire is .8118 mm wide so, the interior diameter of the tubing needs to be at least that wide. To find that, subtract 2 times the wall thickness from the diameter. IE: wall is .25mm thick X 2 = .50 mm. The diameter of the tube is 1.80mm. 1.80 (diameter) - .50 (doubled wall thickness) = Interior diameter of tubing or 1.30mm. So, when searching for tubing, check this calculation to see if the wire will fit. Tubing comes in many different wall thicknesses and diameters. The wire can be slightly smaller and it will work - just crimp a bit if necessary. When the tubing gets too large though, a cap must be soldered on the end, a 20g sized hole drilled in the top of it and then the wire is pushed in and then soldered in place. For the receiving end of the earring, you can create a cap and solder a better fitting piece of tubing inside of it. I'll put more detailed info on my site soon!
