A few years ago I built a playset for my kids. We made the design ourselves with the intent of changing it with the times as the kids grow. Now that we've got a 6- and 3-year old, the decision was made to frame the bottom of the set and turn it into a play house.
One goal of this project was to teach our kids about responsibly sourcing materials. Well over 90% of the materials used here were repurposed and FREE. The 5/4 decking and some of the clapboard came free from the Facebook marketplace, the cedar siding came from my shed build four years ago, and the cedar boards were cutoffs from my fence project two years ago.
My kids love it! May you find inspiration in the design and application of materials in a novel way to a greater purpose and longer life.
