The purpose of this talk is to provide the audience with a brief understanding of shoulder arthroplasty and the importance of pre-operative planning. This directly affects outcomes. The only way to measure outcomes reliably is with a registry. Employment of research assistants to aid in data collection and compliance is crucial to success. In the future, large companies could use outcomes data to determine where their employees are sent for care.
Dr. Axe attended the University of Delaware and was part of the DIMER program. Jefferson Medical College was the perfect fit for him and allowed him to rotate at Christiana Hospital. Orthopaedic residency took him to Tufts Medical Center in Boston, MA. At Tufts, Dr. Axe received the “Giving Back Award” for beginning Orthopaedic coverage for sports of an inner city high school. His first fellowship was with Dr. James Andrews in Alabama where he covered the Crimson Tide and Nick Saban. His second fellowship returned him to Boston as a Harvard shoulder fellow. In 2015, Dr. Axe joined practice with his father at First State Orthopaedics in Newark, DE. Dr. Axe is on the Level 1 trauma staff at Christiana Hospital where he treats the majority of the complexed shoulder pathology. He is the team physician for many local high schools and a specialist consultant for several colleges. While in private practice, Dr. Axe actively participate in research. In 2017 Dr. Axe was voted as a “Top Doc” in Delaware for Sports Orthopaedics.
