Diminish Your Blues

Hey everyone! Here's the next episode of Scales & Tales with Diminish Your Blues. As I mention in the video, after writing for Guitar Player Magazine for nearly six years, I had a number of lesson ideas that were placed on the "back burner" with them, and now that GP is no longer in publication, I figured it would be a great idea to refresh/recycle those lessons and turn them into videos on the LNL channel, which is exactly what this episode contains - so let's dive in!

This lesson is a tribute to Robben Ford, who has always been a beyond tasty guitarist with one foot firmly planted in blues and the other foot stationed somewhere in jazz. His music and expressive playing always catches my ear and makes me smile when I hear him play, so I figured it was finally time to share some light on a few of his secrets, which are featured in this lesson.

The ideas shared here include plenty of examples/discussion into weaving diminished-flavored tonalities into your standard blues licks and playing overall. As you'll find, we combining "regular" pentatonic-based licks/phrases with tasty half-whole diminished scale ideas, diminished seventh arpeggios, and more! Aside from the general scale/arpeggio ideas demonstrated here, I'm also sharing a number of useful licks in this lesson to give you a better idea of how you can use this concept and information in actual music.
