The third part in the video series on momentum. Conservation is maybe the single most important problem solving tool in physics. In this video, I explain why the conservation of momentum has to be true based on the laws of physics we learned in the forces unit and in the previous momentum lectures. I finish with 2 examples of using the conservation of momentum to solve problems.
A quantity is said to be conserved if it can never be created or destroyed, only transferred to another object or transformed to a different type of the same quantity. Momentum is an example of a quantity in physics that cannot be created or destroyed, and we can use that fact to make new specific predictions about the interactions of objects.
