Owner states that a few shops had "looked" at this vehicle and all came to the conclusion that "something" has gone wrong with a sensor, but couldn't tell exactly what. I did not see any evidence of the parts cannon, but did see some attempts to correct the issue. Hard to say if it was rodent damage or shredded Serpentine Belt damage, but the evidence of rodents is here, and wires are....chopped? Let's use the bidirectional controls in the Harbor Freight ZurichPro to control some circuits so that I can test, and figure out if these all have a common reason for malfunction.
After determining what's missing, a few simple repairs fixed the issues, with no parts required! The system was cleared, and restarted with no more hard faults! After being able to now complete a couple drive cycles, the P0645 was the only problem that returned. Some basic EVAP testing showed that there was a very small leak, which seems to have been rust scale on the sealing edge of the fuel fill tube where the rubber gasket contacts it. Ironically, Eric, @SouthMainAuto has recently had a SEVERAL of these with the EXACT same issue! Be sure to check him out, especially if you have THIS issue too!
