Kurt Sutter was unhappy about another biker show trying to use his brand to appeal to the same fan base. In a now hidden post on Twitter/X (via Entertainment Weekly), Sutter wrote: "if DEVIL’S RIDE is gonna advertise itself as a ‘real-life SOA’ then i get to weigh in. they’re f—ing with my brand and they sure AIN’T it.” The show creator started a verbal war, and it didn't go unnoticed by the real-life biker gang, who found Sutter's comments very unfriendly. This almost led to a war between the Sons of Anarchy cast and a real-life motorcycle club in Southern California.
