In 2014 hundreds of accordion players stood by the edge of Lake Bled playing Avsenik's song "Otoček sredi jezera''
On Sunday of Bled Days (19 July 2015) hundreds of accordion players descended on Bled to pay tribute to the "Island in the middle of the lake".

As last year - the first time they convened on Bled - hundreds of players lined the lake to play what is in many ways Bled and Lake Bled's theme tune. Some played as a song, others played as a march, some played slow, some played fast. Regardless - it was a joyful celebration of the accordion, Slovenian music, the town, the lake and the island.

Their beautifully crafted instruments glinted in the sun on one of the hottest days of the year. People came from far and wide to enjoy the music and - it must be said - a little touch of anarchy and teams of players (bands is the proper word, but these musicians were in competition. They were playing as teams) attempted to outdo each other.

It was an unmissable afternoon. Roll on next year when we all hope they will return.


In Slovenian country music the accordionist stands out from the rest of the band, throws shapes and gets the ladies hearts all a flutter. For while they are not exclusively men – like Rock ‘n’ Roll heroes, there are significantly fewer women.
In 2014 around 250 accordionists gathered for a conference and festival. The highlight was when they lined up on Lake Bled shore to play the Avsenik song "Otoček sredi jezera'' ( Island in the middle of the Lake). There were at least that many this year.
