İçerme - Dışlama Prensibi (Inclusion - Exclusion Principle) sayma sistemlerinde önemli bir yer tutmaktadır. Bu metod sayesinde, bir kümeye ait alt kümelerin birleşim kümesinin eleman sayısını ve sonuç olarak birleşim kümesinin tümleyeni olan yani hiçbir alt kümede yer almayan elemanların sayısını hesaplamak mümkün olabilmektedir.

Örten fonksiyonların sayısını hesaplarken de aynı metod uygulanmaktadır.

The Inclusion - Exclusion Principle has an important place in counting systems. Thanks to this method, it is possible to calculate the number of elements of the union of subsets of a set and, consequently, the number of elements that are the complement of the union set, that is, that are not included in any subset.

The same method is applied when calculating the number of surjective functions.
