St. Catherine of Alexandria celebrated the Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe with a pre-dawn procession, an early morning Mass and a reception that followed in the Parish Hall, with steaming menudo and tamales to take away the chill. Festivities continued in the evening with a Spanish-language Mass honoring the Patroness of the Americas. Mary appeared five times in 1531 at Tepeyac, a hill that was northwest of Mexico City. She instructed the Indian Juan Diego, now a saint, to tell the bishop to build a temple at the site. She miraculously left an image of herself on his tilma, which is preserved in a cathedral at the site. Copies of the image of Mary, appearing as an indigenous woman we call Our Lady of Guadalupe, is mounted in St. Catherine's and in churches throughout the hemisphere. Leading the morning procession was Fr. Sagay Emmanuel.
